Throwback Thursday: Wedding Edition

Got a little throwback action for ya today. You're about to feel like you were one of 16 guests at my  pretty little non-traditional wedding. Yep, 16, I didn't leave off a zero or anything. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against big weddings or even medium weddings, we just couldn't afford it. So we did a little something that was our style and managed to make a whole wedding month out of it.

I'll start by saying that Ben and I got engaged after 6 years of dating (and a couple years of living together). We got engaged in January and we I started planning a small September ceremony (people may or may not have thought I was pregnant). I wanted to get married on our 7 year anniversary (9.4.10), because it'd be easy to remember/adorable!
Surprisingly, no one was offended.
Our favorite place and first choice as a venue happened to be Ben's uncle's farm. This made it extra nice to plan and he even let us cut a little aisle and area for the ceremony. We started it way in advance so it'd look badass by the big day! We may or may not have found our officiant on Craigslist (insert judgements here). He was awesome though, and cheap. I picked my dress in 45 minutes because I was hungry and mom and I were going to get sushi afterwards. I have no real emotional attachment to the thing, am I supposed to? It was on sale and post purchase I realized two of the flowers lined up perfectly with my boobs, bonus!! I'll have to try that sumbitch on one of these days and see how it fits, I don't anticipate a monstrous difference except in the boobs. My boobs are shranking.
The whole wedding celebration turned into this:
9/4: Wedding Ceremony followed by dinner in a private room at a nice restaurant downtown
9/5: Cookout/casual party at my in-laws' house
2 weeks later: Cookout/casual party at my parents' house
Then a little Mexican honeymoon
The day of the ceremony could not have been any more perfect! We got some amazing weather! Mom and I got breakfast and nails done in the morning, a nice little way to spend a morning. No cold feet, no jitters, none of that nonsense! I was just excited to see that handsome fella and do the damn thing. My only regret was that we had a no friends policy for the ceremony and I wish we'd have thought that over a bit more. Someonnnnnnne still gives me a tough time about that, bitch :) Everything went smoothly, except putting Ben's ring on…I mumbled something about sausage fingers that apparently everyone heard and came up loud and clear in the video. We had an absolutely amazing day with the people we love most.

The next day we had an awesome time at our little party. Complete with beers beers beers, a massive champagne toast, double chocolate moonshine cake, yard games, dancing (I suck) and some awesome company. Highlight #1: one party guest threatened to stab other party guests if they failed to dance. Hightlight #2: Our first dance happened in his parents' backyard while his dad sang Carve That Possum (yep, real song) along with a banjo and fiddle. Highlight #3: Ben saying goodbye to a guest and telling her, "Thanks for having me!" while at his own party, at his own house.
"Caaarve that possum, caaarve that possum…"
Best wedding ever. Enjoy your Thursdayyyyyy!

  1. LOOOOOOOVE IT!! We had the whole church wedding, have to invite these people we don't even like because they are friends with our parents, go into debt .. etc, etc ... so wish we would have done something simple and AWESOME like this.

  4. I love your style! We did a small wedding with 26 people (all immediate family or close friends) out in Washington state....no one "got it" until they got there! It was so fun and much more intimate than a 200 person affair, plus it costs so much less! I recommend the small wedding to anyone who asks....it was so much more memorable and no stress.

Love the stabbing threat....and I hope people danced :) Did y'all have possum bacon for breakfast the next morning?!

  5. Love it!! I got married in my sister's backyard and had 50 guests. I am so glad we did it that way! I wore a white dress I got from banana republic on clearance for $40! You made a beautiful bride btw!

  6. I love this! After going through the rigamarole of the whole church wedding the first time, the simple ceremony with a big party sounds like so much more fun for the second time (if there is a second time). Your dress was perfect and so pretty!

  8. Its about time I comment on here…just wanted to say loved the way you guys did your wedding. Way to focus on whats really important, and say F-U to the things that don't matter…spending a lot of money and inviting people that you don't speak to 2 years later. You both looked awesome and his dad's song topped it all off. Love this, and Love you too buuuuuuddy! ;) (haven't figured out how to create an official profile yet. Insert retarded at computers comment here)
