I've changed a bit since my cherry picking days. I like to think I'm a little more of a go-getter these days. So I'm gonna succeed at this 5k thing. I haven't quite figured out how. I have a standing date on Mondays for a walk/jog and I'm getting roped into (very willingly) a Saturday morning run with Bran (she's too cool to say no to). Mind you, she's training for 2 half marathons like a little badass. So I'll run for a mini-fraction of the time/distance she will, but still, doing that! I'll keep y'all posted on my progress!
Oh, my shoes, I just got new shoes! I got the Brooks Ravenna 4's. I wanted more colorful ones and expressed to the man selling them to me that I wanted "cuter shoes" but he laughed at me. I guess they're ok. What they ARE is ridiculously comfortable so far. I did my research and I ended up going to Finish Line because they have a 15 Day Test Run, that sounds perfect for me and my flat little feet. So I can try em out and if they are a suckfest I can trade them back in for another pair. This morning at the gym I did some speed walking (because I'm 90) on the treadmill for about 10 minutes and they seemed ok. One of my flat platypus feet, the right one to be exact, hurt a bit around where I should have an arch but don't. I'll keep an eye. Otherwise, they were spectacularly comfy and I'm looking forward to wearing them again.
5k training starts……………………now motherfuckers! Wanna
Friday's so close I can taste it. It tastes liiiiike, Blue Moon.
Have you checked out the Couch to 5k training program? They even have an app for your phone that is pretty amazeballs! I used it for my first 5k last month.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to this post sooooooo much. I was overweight in school and wasn't athletic. No sports for me. Wait, does Horse Basketball count? No? Damn. Anywho, I'm trying to get my ass off the couch and be active and put my dreadmill to use. Please keep us updated on your training...your story keeps me motivated!
ReplyDeleteYou got this!!!!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteTotes awesome! I did my first 5k last October dressed as a grape. Surprisingly it was the best time I have ever ran. I have been hooked ever since. I have never enjoyed running in the past but now its like I almost crave it. Even with my flabby ass bouncing around. I am going to be running the run or dye in Fargo in the summer. Hopefully being pelted with color powder will help me keep my mind off of how shitty I feel.I don't ever use a treadmill I can't stand those things. I rather be one with nature that way if I pass out they can just dig a hole and bury me. Good Luck Woman!
ReplyDeleteI'm doing my first 5K in June - but it is a color run and I hear there isn't much running involved, so I'm all about it ... ha ha
ReplyDeleteyou totally have this. i just did my first 5k EVER last saturday. i too was the slow poke on run the mile day in pe who felt like she was going to puke, finished after the asthma kids, and yes dribble drabbled in my granny panties all the way to the finish line. (talk about being 90. wtf is that all about anyway.
ReplyDeletemy phone wouldnt let me type more! just when you thought ive shared enough eh?! well my over share was in hopes that you would be proud of yourself for every flat footed step you take on this 5k journey! and be thankful you arent like me - pee pants magee :-) crossing that finish line brought all the kinds of emotion to me that mama l talks about with her running journey. for that it is all worth it! im excited to read about your experience!
ReplyDeleteIf I was closer, I totally would. I am so nervous to run my first one. I walk/run them during the week but want to be able to run a full one before I sign up. Good luck!!
